Stuart Newton is the Deputy Auditor General responsible for the office’s Financial Statement Audit portfolio. He is a Chartered Accountant, as well as a Certified Internal Auditor with over 27 years of internal and external audit, consulting and financial policy experience.
Before joining the office, Stuart was the Comptroller General for the Province of British Columbia from 2010 to 2016, and previously held several senior roles within the Office of the Comptroller General. He served as Executive Director, Internal Audit and Advisory Service, responsible for the development and execution of the annual audit plan and ensuring quality assurance with respect to audit and advisory services. He also served as Executive Director, Financial Management Branch; responsible for the effective stewardship and management of financial resources by providing strategic direction and expertise with regard to the development, implementation and evolution of the financial legislative, policy and procedural framework.
Stuart currently serves on the Board of Directors and is the Audit and Finance Committee Chair of the Canadian Comprehensive Audit Foundation (CCAF-FCVI).
