Accountability to the public and Legislative Assembly – the Office of the Auditor General’s 2005/2006 Annual Report

VICTORIA–Arn van Iersel Acting Auditor General today released the 2005/2006 Annual Report for the Office of the Auditor General. The report looks at the Office’s performance during the last fiscal year.

The Annual Report is a critical accountability link back to the public and Legislative Assembly that explains the Office’s overall performance – both in terms of the different types of audit work conducted, and how the Office has managed its finances.

“While I was not present at the Office during the 2005/06 year, I am very familiar with its operations and this report has described the Office’s performance results very well. It has certainly provided me with a more thorough understanding of how the Office has managed its business and how it has delivered on its key goals and objectives. I will be using the information within this report to help guide the Office’s future work plans.”

The report is structured around the Office’s vision, mission, goals, objectives and performance measures, in keeping with its 2005/2006 – 2007/08 Service Plan. The Office’s audited financial statements and a thorough financial analysis are also contained within the report.

There are many accomplishments highlighted including the fact that the Office has fully met or come very close to meeting many of its 18 key performance targets. The attached Backgrounder provides an overview of the Office’s performance and the “Our performance at a glance” section in the report outlines each of our performance measure results (see page 22).
